Closed water systems typically contain a number of different metals which subject the system to galvanic corrosion. Generalized corrosion due to low pH or oxygenated water is also a problem. Any corrosion in a closed loop system can have long term effects. Corrosion elements build into a mass that eventually breaks loose and circulates with the system water. These chunks can cause erosion and premature failure of pump impellers and seals. Corrosion build-up in heat exchangers will reduce water flow and the efficiency of the heat exchange surfaces.

The standard practice is to use sodium nitrite in an attempt to lay down a monomolecular film on the metal surfaces to protect them. Unfortunately, 100% coverage is impossible and corrosion still occurs. Film-forming agents require clean smooth metal surfaces to bond with. Oils, paint, existing corrosion, or any other surface coating will prevent film-forming products from working.

TERLYN CST is an advanced technology chemistry designed to bond directly with the corrosion causing elements before they can interact and cause corrosion. Iron and oxygen are the biggest problem. These two elements have a strong affinity for one
another and bond rapidly to form iron oxide or rust. CST has a stronger affinity for the free iron than oxygen has, thus preventing iron oxide formations. Because of this extreme affinity for iron, CST will break down any existing iron oxide, hold the iron in solution allowing the oxygen to go free. CST's ability to remove existing corrosion is one of its greatest attributes.

To a lesser degree, scale forming elements such as calcium and magnesium can also effect closed systems. CST will bond with any of these positively charged ions to prevent scale buildup. Because water loss in closed systems is typically very low,
treatment will normally last from six to twelve months, and the amount of additional treatment is usually minimal.

Application is easy. Simply pour the recommended amount of CST into the system, close it up, and walk away.

Water Loss

The only factor that will effect treatment concentration is water losses. Closed water systems are designed to be "closed". However, many systems have water losses due to leaks or process demands. On these systems a water meter can easily be added to the make-up line. This allows the losses to be monitored and treatment to be added accordingly.

Hardness

Water hardness is not a concern with hot or chilled closed water systems. Since there is no evaporation, there is no increase in cycles or hardness within the system. Existing scale and corrosion built up will effect the time it takes to completely clean the system, but does not effect the treatment feed rate.
