Crystal Clean Frequently Asked Questions
To be 100% positive what is causing your water problem(s), We recommend that you have your water tested by your local water softener professional. These tests are usually at no charge and will give you a better idea of what you are dealing with. To test your water, take an empty soda bottle, go to a hose spicket, or somewhere where you can take a sample of your raw well water previous to any softening. Let the water run for a few minutes, and rinse the bottle out a few times with the well water. There are two statistics that are most important when purchasing our Crystal Clean system. Those figures are: iron, and total hardness. Because Crystal Clean is a treatment, exactly how much to use depends on the levels of iron and hardness in your water.
Odor in your home’s water can be caused by a number of things. However, the most common cause of foul water odor is iron bacteria. Iron bacteria lives in your well, and travels through your water supply into your water softener. If your water softener has trapped iron, the bacteria will now start to grow and multiply inside your softener because it now has a sustained food source, the trapped iron to feed from. As the bacteria grows into a colony, it forms a slime coating over itself to protect itself from harm. It is this slimy coating that carries into your home and causes a “rotten egg” smell. Crystal Clean removes the trapped iron from your softener, thereby eliminating the food source. As a result, iron bacteria is eliminated.
As more and more iron gets trapped, your softener’s ability to remove more iron and hardness becomes less and less. Your softener will actually get to the point with enough iron that it can no longer produce soft water. As the iron passes through to your home, it then forms deposits where water has the most contact (i.e. toilets, etc.). Once the Crystal Clean system is installed, the trapped iron will gradually be cleaned out of the softener, restoring it’s ability to produce soft, iron free water.
Our Crystal Clean system is offered in local water softener dealerships across the country. These dealers include Culligan, Ecowater, Kinetico, as well as smaller independent dealers. We are also delighted to ship factory direct to you via UPS. Please call us toll free so we can assist you in finding your closest dealer.
Installing an iron filter will remove any and all iron from your water. However, the cost of an iron filter can range anywhere from $1,500 or more. Our Crystal Clean System’s cost is not even a quarter of the cost of an iron filter, with better results!
A water softener’s normal life span is 7 - 10 years. If your softener has been dealing with iron problems for an extended period of time, your resin may need to be replaced. If the resin is damaged from all of the iron that has been trapped for a long period of time, even when the Crystal Clean system cleans the iron, the resin is still damaged and cannot remove water’s hardness. Even when you replace the resin, you should use our program to extend the life of the softener, and increase the quality of water that the softener produces.
Yes. Res-Up, Iron-Out, and all other similar products very weak and cannot remove all of the iron from a water softener. Crystal Clean has a bonding strength 100 times stronger than these products thereby making it far superior in performance and results.
If you are experiencing brown stains in your laundry, sinks, toilets, and bathtubs, or your water has a rotten egg smell, there is no better treatment for your water softener to eliminate these problems than Crystal Clean. You will no longer have to use special salt, or pour dangerous chemicals into your water softener anymore.
Our Crystal Clean Starter Kit will take the average homeowner less than 10 minutes to install. Our pump simply has two tubes; one tube goes to our jug full of treatment, the other is inserted into the pipe that sticks up out of your salt brine tank of your water softener. This allows our treatment to drip directly into the salt water versus through the salt. Since our pump feeds at a constant, slow rate, simply plug our pump into any regular wall outlet, and your installation is complete.
Since your problems are being caused by a build-up of iron in your water softener resin tank, in order to eliminate the resulting stains and odors would require the resin to be completely clean of trapped iron. How long this will take is directly related to how much trapped iron is present. We have seen symptoms disappear anywhere from one to four weeks. This is why we offer the full 60 day money back guarantee. You have plenty of time to evaluate the program.
A water softener resin’s normal life span is 7-10 years. However, the use of a Crystal Clean system can more than double this life expectancy.
A water softener and an iron filter are very similar and when iron is present, both will eventually fill with trapped iron and no longer be effective at preventing stains and odors. When a Crystal Clean system is installed, any iron filtration equipment should be disconnected because a poorly functioning iron filter will also cause stains and odors.
